A More Intelligent Popup

By now, even the dogs on the street know that Popups are an invaluable tool for the Internet Marketer.

Whether you love them or hate them (and, let's face it, most of us hate them), there's no denying the fact that Popups DO work.

Whether you want people to sign up for your email course or take action quickly to buy your product, a well-utilized Popup can do wonders to increase your conversion rates.

But, there's one problem with most Popups - and it's a problem that I haven't seen addressed anywhere.

Picture this scenario...

Joe is on your site and reading your sales pitch. He likes what he sees and decides to order. He clicks the order link. Then what happens? Up comes your Popup. Suddenly he's distracted and maybe even annoyed. Your Popup might read something like "Not Ready to Order Yet?" or "Wait! Order Now and Get This Extra Special Thingymajiggy Absolutely Free!".

A moment ago he was about to order. Now, he may be about to change his mind.

Wouldn't it be better if your Popup ONLY appears if Joe is leaving your site WITHOUT clicking the order link (or any other link of your choosing) rather than popping up just because he's leaving your page?

Well, it can be done! And thanks to Kavi over at the Ultimate Marketing Center who gave me this tip, I can show you how to do it.

Firstly, place this snippet of JavaScript between the <head> and </head> tags of your web page. (You can do this using your favorite website editing software or using a text editor like NotePad).


Copy/Paste this script into the head of your webpage
and edit it to suit your specific PopUp URL, size and so on.

Now, if you don't want the window to pop up when Joe clicks on the order link (or on any other link), just put the following code on that link:

<a href="YOUR_ORDER_LINK.htm" onclick="exit=false">Click here to order</a>

And that's it!

Now you can decide exactly when a Popup should pop and when it should leave your visitors in peace.
